How to heat cooked octopus without making it rubbery
05 Oct 2026 — from the Numkin kitchen

Octopus has a reputation for being chewy — but that only happens when it's cooked too fast or heated too long. Our octopus is already slow-braised until tender, so all you need to do is warm it gently.
The pan method (best)
- Heat a pan on medium with a teaspoon of oil.
- Add the octopus and its sauce.
- Stir for 2–3 minutes until hot. Stop there.
The microwave method
Cover the bowl and heat for 90 seconds, stirring once halfway.
Serve it with
- Plain rice or polao
- Warm paratha
- A squeeze of lime and sliced onions
That's it — tender octopus, every time.
